Our commitment to making this website accessible to everyone
Last updated: April 16, 2026
Our Commitment
The National Assembly of The Gambia is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for all citizens, including people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards.
We strive to ensure that our website conforms to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards, as these guidelines are widely accepted as the international standard for accessibility.
Accessibility Features
We have implemented the following features to make our website more accessible:
Keyboard Navigation
All interactive elements can be accessed using only a keyboard. Use Tab to navigate forward, Shift+Tab to navigate backward, and Enter or Space to activate buttons and links.
Screen Reader Compatibility
Our website is designed to work with popular screen readers including JAWS, NVDA, and VoiceOver. We use semantic HTML, ARIA landmarks, and descriptive labels throughout the site.
Text Alternatives
Images include alternative text descriptions (alt text) to convey their meaning to users who cannot see them. Decorative images are appropriately marked so screen readers skip them.
Color Contrast
We maintain sufficient color contrast ratios between text and backgrounds to ensure readability. Our color choices meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA contrast requirements.
Resizable Text
Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality. Use your browser's zoom feature (Ctrl/Cmd + Plus) to increase text size.
Clear Language
We use plain language and avoid jargon where possible. The website supports multiple languages including English, French, Portuguese, and Arabic with proper RTL support.
Keyboard Shortcuts
The following keyboard shortcuts are available throughout the website:
Browser Accessibility Tips
Most modern browsers include built-in accessibility features. Here are some helpful tips:
Zoom In/Out
Use Ctrl + + to zoom in, Ctrl + - to zoom out, and Ctrl + 0 to reset.
High Contrast Mode
Windows users can enable High Contrast mode by pressing Left Alt + Left Shift + Print Screen.
Screen Reader
Windows includes Narrator (press Windows + Ctrl + Enter). Mac includes VoiceOver (press Cmd + F5).
Known Limitations
While we strive to ensure accessibility of the National Assembly website, some limitations may exist:
- Some older PDF documents may not be fully accessible. We are working to remediate these documents.
- Third-party content embedded on our site (such as YouTube videos) may have varying levels of accessibility.
- Some interactive maps may not be fully accessible to screen reader users. Alternative text descriptions are provided where possible.
