Gambian Delegation attends Asia-Africa Parliamentary Council meeting in Benghazi, Libya
A delegation from the National Assembly, led by Hon. Abdoulie Ceesay, Deputy Majority Leader and Member for Old Yundum Constituency, is currently in Benghazi, Libya, representing The National Assembly at the Asia-Africa Parliamentary Council.
The Asia-Africa Parliamentary Council is a newly established intercontinental parliamentary forum inaugurated in September 2025, aims to foster cooperation and dialogue between the legislative bodies of Asian and African nations.
Hon. Ceesay, speaking on behalf of the Speaker of the National Assembly, delivered an address at the Council's plenary session, in which he reaffirmed The Gambia's unwavering commitment to Asia-Africa parliamentary cooperation. He extended the country's full endorsement for the Council's leadership, including His Excellency Mr. Saud Rashid Al-Hujailan, First Deputy President of the Council and President of the International Federation of Asian and African Trade Unions (IFAATU).
In his address, Hon. Ceesay called on the Council to serve as a dynamic engine for cooperation across key sectors, including trade, education, climate action, youth empowerment, and cultural exchange. He urged member states to translate parliamentary deliberations into tangible and lasting outcomes that directly benefit the peoples of Asia and Africa.
The delegation also comprises of Hon. Amie Colley, Member for Foni Brefet, Hon. Abdou Sowe, Member for Kombo South, and Hon. Pa Dembo Sanneh, Member for Foni Bondali.
